We will be flying to Cabo tomorrow (Thursday), so if you are trying to get in touch with us, please be patient!  We will be checking email while in Mexico, so if you have any questions, feel free to drop us a line!

I photographed Christine and Todd today in and around Winthrop, Maine. They were absolutely fabulous and really great sports- we went to some of the most grungy areas in town (I love the grunge!) and they were awesome to work with throughout! I wanted to share some of my favorites from the shoot:

My shoot this weekend isn’t until tomorrow, so I spent the day evaluating my new camera. I have been a Nikon owner since the days of film- my first digital cameras were a Nikon D100 and a Nikon D1X. However, when I upgraded them, I changed to the Fuji S2. At the time, the S2 delivered the best out of camera color and a greater amount of dynamic range (for those of you who don’t know, early digital cameras typically had much less dynamic range than film- it has difficulty holding detail in the very bright AND the very dark areas- you would usually have to choose). And, the S2 is built on a Nikon base, so it uses Nikon mount lenses. When it was time to upgrade again, the S3 (the Fuji model following the S2) didn’t deliver for me. It was slower, and just didn’t have as many improvements to justify the upgrade from the S2. So, I moved to the Nikon D2X and the Nikon D200. Well, I have been more than happy with the D2X and D200 combination, but I tried out the Fuji S5 (the latest model in the Fuji pro camera lineup) the other day at Hunt’s Photo and Video, the camera store I frequent in Portland. I was extremely impressed. The dynamic range is amazing, the colors straight out of the camera are much like the colors I used to get from Fuji film, and the body is the same as the D200′s body, so it is familiar. I picked one up, and have been spending the past few days putting it through its paces next to the D200 and the D2X. I always test all of my cameras thoroughly before using them in a professional capacity- I test the write speed, dynamic range (highlight and shadow retention as well), color, focusing speed, noise, as well as other things. All I can say is WOW! I will be picking up another S5 in the next few days. While I still like the speed of my D2X and D200, when I compare the files of the D200/D2X to the S5, I find that I prefer the files from the S5 hands down. Anyway, here are some photographs of Eric, Cody, Jackson, and our dog, Kaia (in that order), from the past few hours of testing:
