Sharyn Peavey is a wonderful photographer and a great friend.  We have been talking for months about doing a model shoot for her, and on Labor Day we finally made it happen.  Kate from Head Games in Portland supplied the hair and makeup for Sharyn, and Simply Chic supplied the fabulous clothes.  It was a beautiful sunny day, although I think that every bug in New England must have been in the Freeport area that day- Kate, Sharyn and I have the bug bites to prove it!  Here are some of my fave shots of Sharyn from the day:

I photographed Arlo’s three month session a few days ago at his grandparents’ home in Gardiner, Maine.  Arlo is a member of our baby plan program, so I’ll be photographing him a few more times over the next year!  What a happy baby- he let me photograph him for almost an hour!  Here are a few of my faves, or view his gallery here:

One question I have been asked half a dozen times in the past week is “What is a True Romance Shoot?” – I wanted to take the opportunity to explain the shoot here, where I could show some examples of my favorite photographs from different types of True Romance sessions throughout the past year or so.

The True Romance shoot could also be called a “Trash the Dress” or “Post Shoot”, but I think that it is so much more than the name implies.  The session isn’t about getting the dress dirty, and it doesn’t necessarily occur after the wedding, so neither of those names seemed particularly appropriate to me.  Rather, the session is about making fun and romantic images in locations which would not be possible and/or appropriate on the wedding day.  Sometimes the session happens before the wedding day, sometimes it happens after.  Sometimes the bride wears her wedding dress, sometimes she buys a second wedding dress (or another white dress- a white sundress is a popular option), and sometimes she wears something completely different.  Sometimes the couple gets wet and sandy, and sometimes we just visit some cool locations that we didn’t have time to go to on the wedding day.

No matter what type of True Romance Shoot we do, the session ends up being one of my favorite times to work with the bride and groom.  Often, when it is just the two of them (and me, of course!) there is little stress involved.  The couple can kick back and relax, and really enjoy each other!  And we usually have a lot of fun in the process!

Here are a few of my favorite True Romance shots from the past year:
