If you follow my blog, you know that my posts are a hodgepodge of images.  They aren’t necessarily in chronological order; rather, I order images based what makes the wedding composite flow.  I’m going to deviate from that for this blog post, so bear with me- this is going to be a long one.

I just returned from the Dominican Republic where I photographed the unbelievable wedding of Karina and David at Casa Kimball in Cabrera.  It was a three day event between two photographers (many thanks to Eric for joining me on the trip!), and every part offered up gorgeous eye candy.  On day one there was a beautiful fire ceremony, on day two the main ceremony, and on day three we ventured into the town of Cabrera to take some fun photographs of Karina and David.  There are so many different images across the entire color spectrum, and I found that when I was creating the blog composite I was grouping the photographs by color.  So, I’m going to present them that way here, with details in between the groups of images.

First, the bright blues and reds.  Although we didn’t have sun the entire day (more on that later!), we had periods of gorgeous blue skies and bright blue ocean.  That contrasted nicely with the bright red that Karina chose for her flowers.  Monica, the amazing event manager at Casa Kimball, really brought the colors together in such a stunning way. Of course, we also saw the bright blues and reds echoed in the town of Cabrera itself.

Next, the gorgeous greens take over.  From the beautifully manicured lawn at Casa Kimball to the lush foliage outside the gates of Orchid Bay, the greens were unbelievable.  We also saw a few fun green buildings in the town of Cabrera the day after the wedding.  We also found a friend while we were out walking (the best looking dog in Cabrera and such a sweetie)!  Also, I can’t forget to mention my competition- check out the cutie pie with the camera- he was sitting on his mom’s lap taking photographs during the ceremony!

As I mentioned, it wasn’t always sunny.  The morning of the wedding the heavy rain started, but Karina and David never lost their cheery outlook!  It did clear up for the ceremony (unbelievably, the sun came out just as Karina was about to walk down the aisle!), but then the fabulous storm clouds rolled in.  It didn’t rain, but it created a moody look for us after the ceremony while we headed around the grounds of Casa Kimball.  I really love the muted palette here!

Back to some bright colors- check out the amazing details at this incredible venue!  Casa Kimball is truly stunning, and Monica did such a wonderful job designing the wedding to flow within Karina and David’s vision.   The staff created some of the most incredible food over the three days- I think my favorite was the soup served in the hollowed out coconuts, though!

Ah, yellow- one of my favorite colors.  From the greenish yellows in the trees on the beach to the bright yellow buildings in town, I was happy to see this sunny color everywhere!  My favorite building was the bright yellow fish shack- I wish it had been open when we headed through on our photo shoot, but the exterior proved to be a wonderful backdrop in and of itself!

Here are a few more of my favorite moments from the ceremony (and right after the ceremony) on day 2.  I love the ceremony location that Karina and David chose- it allowed us to take some fun shots of the ceremony site from the roof of Casa Kimball as well as from the elevated infinity pool which stretches from the residence to the cliffs over the ocean.  It was truly a stunning spot!

Finally, I wanted to end with the fire ceremony.  We started our coverage at the fire ceremony on the first day.  On the beach (under the trees, stars, and lanterns hung in the branches), David’s uncle led the guests through a fire ceremony designed to cleanse the spirit.  They also had a cigar-rolling team there, as well as some incredible food and drinks in coconuts!  I loved the blankets, lanterns and pillows which created the cozy sitting areas right on the beach in Orchid Bay!

This may go down in history as my favorite engagement session ever!  I am photographing Cate and Saro’s destination wedding in Sayulita, Mexico, later this year, and they wanted a completely different backdrop for their engagement photographs.  So they brought me down to NYC, which is one of my favorite places.  I knew from emails traded with Cate that she and Saro were going to be fun.  But nothing prepared me for the vintage-themed, prop-wielding, colorful craziness of the engagement session.  Cate and Saro are a blast!  Not only did we traipse through funky urban neighborhoods, but we also went to the water to get some great views of Manhattan from Brooklyn, and Cate and Saro ended the session with a bubble gun battle followed by a water balloon fight!  It was an incredible evening and I’m really looking forward to photographing their wedding later this year!  Here are a few of my faves from the day:

I photographed Abby and Colby’s engagement a few weeks ago, and after speaking with them at length about the design of their wedding, I was so excited to see it on the big day.  The design, courtesy of Christina Tonkin of Christina Tonkin Interior & Events (who was also the set decorator for the hit shows Gossip Girl and Sex & The City) was stunning, and of course the location itself (Point Lookout in Northport, Maine) was incredible.  Add to that a relaxed (and beautiful!) bride and groom, and you have an absolutely amazing wedding. Everyone was fabulous to work with- the wedding party was fun and stayed on the dance floor all night, and the families were wonderful.  The flowers, courtesy of S. Scollay Custom Floral Designs, were absolutely gorgeous, and the cake (by 3 Dogs Cafe) was both beautiful and tasty!  All in all it was an absolutely perfect wedding.
