Jenna and Joel had a beautiful weekday intimate wedding at the Asticou in Northeast Harbor, Maine.  It was a wonderful event, and we did a post shoot the next day which gave us the opportunity to head into Acadia National Park to create some images.  Jenna and Joel may win the award- they have been together since the eighth grade!!  As a result, they are so comfortable around each other, and every expression was so natural, wonderful, and affectionate!  Here are a few of my favorites from the day:

Every once in a while a wedding comes along that it so unique and reflects the couple so well that simply by attending the event you can feel as if you have known the couple for years.  Sam and Sasha met while Sasha was apprenticing on a farm in Maine and he was working as a timber frame carpenter.  Today, they own an amazing farm in Milbridge, Maine, called Salty Dog Farm.  They are committed to the environment, and as a result many of the decorations at their wedding (at the gorgeous Asticou) were antiques that were repurposed for the event (the chandeliers, all of the old bottles holding the flowers) and even the menus were made out of seeded paper so that they could be planted to produce wildflowers!  Most of the food at the wedding was grown and harvested locally (the food was incredible!) and even the gift bags (beautiful Sea Bags) and tents (from Sperry Seacoast Tents) were made from recycled sails.  The dahlias (over 1000 of them) were grown locally.  Sasha’s sister Elizabeth made the gorgeous cake which even had miniatures of the bride and groom on top!

Stephen Hartley played guitar as the couple walked down the aisle, and Stephanie Morgan (a family friend) officiated the ceremony.  It was Stephanie who suggested the ribbon ceremony which symbolically tied both families together, and I am so happy that she did because I loved the fact that the couple walked under the ribbons (held aloft by guests) at the end of the ceremony.  It was one of my favorite photographs of the day.   Sasha and Sam had two bands- Jerks of Grass played at the cocktail hour and the nine piece brass band, Slavic Soul Party, was absolutely incredible and kept everyone on the dance floor all night.  Cranberry Island Kitchen made the unbelievable whoopie pies, and there was even a photobooth there (from Maine Photo Booth Company)!  Of course, the whole thing was designed and coordinated by the unbelievable Amber Small (Sweetest Thing Weddings)- she worked with Sasha and Sam to create one of the most amazing, unique events that I have ever been to.  She used individual dahlias and driftwood to create the amazing centerpieces (each centerpiece was a unique creation!) and she scoured the state of Maine for gorgeous antiques to tie the event design together.  It was truly an incredible design!
